PARGA A SUMMER HOLIDAYS DESTINATION IN GREECE

Parga is a graceful place that attracts visitors from around the world during the summer season.

The town, apart from the Venetian castle, is best known for the small church on the little island of Virgin Mary. Numerous graphic stone-paved alleys show the way into the Venetian castle, shops, restaurants and bars in town.

Parga’s character is lively, modern and at the same time has strong traditional elements; it is true what visitors comment: "fun in Parga never stops". Every summer, Parga is overwhelmed by thousands of tourists.

The town features an excellent touristic infrastructure with many hotels, camping sites, gift shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs and everything one could ask for during holidays.

Parga today has approximately 3,000 inhabitants, however in the summer months that number increases tremendously. This cumulates on 15th August around the main holiday time for Greeks and Italians and visitors arrive to enjoy the annual celebration (Pargina Festival) of the liberation of Parga from the Turks.

It is noticeable that the sea of Parga comes under the Natura network due to its algae varieties. Almost all beaches in Parga are organized and offered for water sports; they can compete on equal terms with the Ionian Islands, for the title of the most sophisticated and recherché destination in the continental coast of the Ionian Sea.

The beaches around Parga are the best of the Ionian Sea. The most famous and busiest beaches are Valtos, Krioneri, Piso Krioneri, Lichnos, Sarakiniko and Agios Giannakis.

Sandy and pebbly, Lichnos is one of the most beautiful beaches of Parga. It is surrounded by verdurous mountains and olive groves and in combination with the sapphire crystal clear waters, Lichnos beach has become one of the most preferred destinations for visitors.

Although the beach is hidden within a lush landscape, visitors shall have an easy time locating it; it is accessible by car, motorcycle, bicycle and boat.

Krioneri Beach is the main beach of Parga and is located within the bounds of the community in a distance only a few meters away from its centre and its port.

Just across it and in a distance only of a few meters is located the magnificent and picturesque small island of Virgin Mary, which can be accessed by swimming or by sea bike

Valtos Beach is one of the longest beaches of Parga with a coastline that approaches (3 km) km. It is located just under the impressive rock that is built the castle of Parga, on the opposite side.

Because of its clear and calm waters and its distance from Parga gathers crowd of swimmers. It is covered by sand and pebbles, is safe enough because it is surrounded by the bay of the castle of Parga and also by the bay of Vlacherna, whereas the length of coastline allows the natural renewal of the water without the strong streams 

Nightlife in Parga is fairly chilled but there is still plenty of fun to be had.

The majority of the action in the evenings is centred around the port, so here you will find the best selection of bars and clubs to choose from.

The restaurants serve plenty of locally caught seafood, and this is something of a local specialty. Many family run establishments offer lots of traditional Greek food to tempt you while you look out across views of the bay.

The restaurants in the centre of the town may be less busy and if you want to go and explore the winding side streets you are sure to discover a hidden gem.

imilarly with the range of bars in Parga, there are plenty of tiny establishments to be found on the back streets, but for the best entertainment and choice of cocktails you should head to the many bars around the bay.

Relax with a pina colada in the evening and enjoy some traditional local music!

The bars here are not too raucous but you will still find several that play a range of music into the early hours.
